


Sun Tar byar or Blue phaseolus beans are now expanded in the market as a foreign export item and the price is 130,000 kyats per 3-basket bag.
Since the last five years, the bean growers in Myanmar have cultivated Blue phaseolus or Sun Tar byar bean and now, it is popular as a new export item to China.
Soe Win Myint, Merchant said “Among the export items, Blue phaseolus is the most popular export bean. Its colour is mixed with white, red and black. Most of the people call this bean as Pae Zee Gwat. In 2021, this bean was very popular and the neighbouring country, China mostly bought it.”
In 2021, a 3-basket bag of Sun Tar byar bean was priced at 60,000 kyats and now, 31st January of this year, the price was 130,000 kyats per 3-basket bag.
Soe Win Myint, Merchant said “In the China market, they purchase the beans a lot. Generally, Sun Tar byar bean can be grown in Ayeyawady and Chindwin basin areas, especially the places where the river water flows. We can see that the bean is cultivated now in the areas of Pakokku, Yezagyo, Monywa, Salin and Minbu and Magway.”
The merchant from Mandalay said he hopes the country’s income will increase if they can export other beans as a new export item to foreign market, like Pae Zee Kwat.
