A pediatric neurosurgeon from Japan and the surgeons of the North Okkalapa General Hospital performed the neurosurgery for children for free.

This is the 2nd time of brain surgery for children jointly conducted by the Japanese neurosurgeon and the doctors of North Okkalapa General Hospital.

Professor, Takayuki Inagaki, Ibraki, Tokyo, said " This is my 3rd time to be here. My first time was for the surgical talks and the 2nd time was in 2019. The neurosurgery is a little bit far from ordinary people. Generally, people only know about patients who are mentally illness and patients with brain injuries. But in children, there are lumps on the head, on the brain, and lumps on the lumbar spine. I teach mainly the neurosurgery and share my experiences to the surgeons here."

Like performing such kind of brain surgery in cooperation with the international medical officer, it will gain more experiences for young medical officers.

Dr Kyi Hlaing, Head, Neurological Department, North Okkalapa General Hospital, said " Since 1966, the brain surgery has progressed in our country. But the brain surgery for children doesn’t have as a branch. 20 or 25 percent of patients coming here are the child patients. That’s why, we have invited the Japanese neurosurgeon to train some young generation to become pediatric neurosurgeons."

The neurosurgery for children was conducted free of charge and it takes about 6 hours to perform the surgical operation for a patient. The North Okkalapa General Hospital is planning to continue to perform surgical operations in cooperation with international specialists.
