






The 7th meeting of the National Land Use Council was held at the Ingyin Hall of the Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the National Land Use Council, member of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, Union Minister for the Ministry of Defense, General Maung Maung Aye, who delivered the opening remarks.
First, the National Land Use Council Chairman General Maung Maung Aye, stated that there are currently 53 laws related to land management in the country.
He noted that when these laws are implemented by the respective ministries, there are instances of contradictions between them and inconsistencies with modern systems. To address these issues, a committee has been formed and tasked with studying and analyzing the laws enacted by various ministries and organizations. The goal is to harmonize these laws and draft a comprehensive National Land Law that encompasses them all.
He mentioned that the Work Committee on Drafting the National Land Law and Harmonization of Related Laws was established to carry out this task. The Working Committee set a timeline for drafting the National Land Law from August 2023 to October 2024, a period of 15 months. As of now, the draft National Land Law has reached an effective stage, and he provided clarifications regarding the draft law.
Subsequently, Union Ministers U Khin Maung Yi and U Min Naung presented explanations on the progress made in their respective sectors. Representatives from various land use working committees and the technical advisory group on land use also provided updates on their ongoing efforts in their respective areas.
Following this, members of the National Land Use Council, including Union Ministers, the Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, Chief Ministers of Regions and States, and Deputy Ministers, discussed and presented issues related to land management they have encountered, addressing them according to their respective sectors.Further discussions took place regarding suggestions on the draft National Land Law by relevant sectors, the development and implementation of a National Land Mapping System, matters related to statistics and information concerning land use, and the formulation of pilot projects for land use. These topics were collaboratively discussed and suggestions were made.After the Chairman of the National Land Use Council delivered conclusion remarks, the meeting was concluded.
