The National Committee on Children's Rights (1/2024) meeting was held at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw on 17th December.

In his opening speech, the Union Minister Dr. Soe Win stated that the Department of Social Welfare has opened a total of 14 youth training schools for children in need of protection across regions and states, including children with disabilities, children on remand under trial at the Court and children who have received judicial sentences in various courts.

These schools have provided education, extracurricular learning, livelihood skills, good manners, and life skills to 2,650 children, helping them reintegrate into their communities. To address children's issues effectively, the Ministry implemented the Case Management Information System (CMIS) for efficient social case management.

From 2018 to October 2024, a total of 7,964 cases have been documented and processed, including 6,990 cases involving children in conflict with the law, and 974 cases involving children not in conflict with the law, with a focus on cases of physical and sexual abuse, gender-based violence, and criminal acts.

Following this, the Secretary of the National Committee on Children's Rights and the Director-General of the Department of Social Welfare provided updates on the outcomes of the previous meeting (1/2023), including the progress on the decisions made, the implementation of children's rights activities through the social case management system, and the status of draft policies for child protection.

Subsequently, the members of the National Committee engaged in a general discussion, after which the meeting was concluded.
