Myanmar-Russia Friendship Forum: 75th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

Forum on Myanmar-Russia Friendship and Cooperation in commemoration of 75th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Russian Federation took place at the MICC-2 in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday with an address by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. 

On arrival at the MICC-2, the Prime Minister, Russian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Nikolay Listopadov and party viewed around Russia-Myanmar friendship video and documentary photos.

The ceremony was commenced with the song, “"A New History will be opened” sung by Vocalists from Myanma Radio and Television and then a documentary video on Myanmar-Russia friendship and cooperation in the successive eras was shown.

In his address, the SAC Chairman Prime Minister said that establishing diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Russia will turn 75 years on 18th February 2023.

If looking back the history of relations between the two countries, the friendship and relations have been strengthened in successive eras and it will promote more than the past in the time of the State Administration Council as well as friendship has been boosted among the armies of the two countries.

Cooperation could be made not only in trade, science and technology and defence but also in other comprehensive sectors. Especially, Russia and Myanmar will cooperate more as permanent friendly country and permanent allies.

Bilateral cooperation will be conducted in opening of more Russia-Myanmar Friendship Associations, exchange of goodwill visits of the governments of the two countries and Tatmadaw senior officials, trade and economic cooperation, boosting tourism industry, cooperation in religion and culture, dispatching more civilian and military scholars and human resource development, cooperation in humanitarian aids and international and regional relations. 

Russia is the 6th country in the diplomatic relations of Myanmar. The diplomatic relations between the two countries had been since 1948 when Myanmar gained Independence.

The Prime Minister added that Myanmar respects Russian as a good friend and will cooperate in all sectors for the interests of the two countries and efforts will be made for the people of the two countries to have friendship among each other.

Since independence, Myanmar has been constantly practicing the five principles of peaceful co-existence and also “independent”, active and “non-aligned Foreign Policy”. Myanmar is looking towards the world peace and friendly and cooperative relations between the nations.

He reiterated his special thanks to international organizations, all countries and individuals including Russia to help and cooperate after understanding the pragmatic condition of Myanmar among various pressures, criticisms and complaints in the time of their government.

Topics to be discussed and the persons in the forum will be opportunities to enhance Russia-Myanmar friendship and cooperation in all sectors and will find out ways and means to boost cooperation.

He also called for actively participate in the discussion and made a wish for long-lasting Russia-Myanmar friendship which has existed for many years in history, Russia-Myanmar Cultural development and development of the two countries.

After that, Russian Ambassador to Myanmar gave a speech on endeavorings for promoting friendship and investments of the two countries, education, human resource development, sports and health sectors and the use of nuclear energy peacefully.

Later, the Prime Minister and party enjoyed entertainment of Rossiya Vperod Russian song by Myawady Music troupe. The Prime Minister, the Russian Ambassador and attendees then took documentary photos and the Prime Minister and party left from the event.

The ceremony was continued according to the agenda and the discussions were made with the topics, “Myanmar-Russia current relations and future journey” and “Myanmar-Russia relations and the benefits to Myanmar's socio-economy".

After that, a review and discussion was held and the Union Minister for Information gave a closing speech. Vocalists from Myawady Music Troupe under the office of the Directorate of Public Relations and Psychological Warfare entertained with Nadejda song.
