Movie Industry : MOI Union Minister visits Film City project in Hlegu

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein visited the Film City project of Myanmar Motion Picture Organization (MMPO) in Hlegu Township on Yangon Region on Sunday.

A video presentation was shown on the progress of the Film City project, and the MMPO Secretary reported on the current status and future plans of the project. The Union Minister emphasized the project’s national significance and mentioned that the project could be implemented through three possible methods of self-funding by the organization, government-backed loans, or a Public-Private Partnership.

If successful, it would allow most film production activities to take place in and around Yangon, making operations more convenient for artists. He also noted that during the COVID-19 period, the ministry and MMPO worked together to revive the suspended cinema industry, which is now operating again in a normal capacity.

He called on all stakeholders to contribute to the project's success. During the visit, the Union Minister and the Chief Minister planted saplings for greening of the Film City project, together with the artists and staff.
