The director of Lima's Santa Rosa Hospital, who said he had lost three brothers to COVID-19, spoke of his desire to keep fighting as he was one of dozens of Peruvian health workers receiving coronavirus vaccines on Wednesday. Peru is continuing its vaccination rollout, using the Chinese-Sinopharm shot, with medical personnel given first priority.

Dr Oscar Zuñiga, Santa Rosa's director, said he had also seen two nephews and a sister-in-law die during the pandemic, while he himself hospitalized with COVID-19. Several members of staff at the hospital have died from the virus. Authorities started the vaccination program in Lima, with the army then assisting with nationwide distribution, days after the country received 300,000 doses of the Sinopharm jab.  Peruvian authorities expect 700,000 more in the coming days.
