Monsoon Tree Planting Ceremony : SAC Chairman participates in the event in Nay Pyi Taw

2025 Monsoon Tree Planting ceremony was held at the YanAungMyin Forest reserve in Dakkhinnathiri township, Nay Pyi Taw Union Terroritory on Sunday. At the ceremony, Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stressed the need to actively participate in the measures of greening environment, forest resources, ecosystem, preventing natural disasters, fair climatic condition and tree planting.

He added that forest plays a vital role in ecosystem and development of the nations, and to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, every country accerlates the momentum  in planting and protecting the forests. Forest coverage in Myanmar was 42.92 % in 2015 and 42.15% in 2025 according to the prelinary report, showing slight amount of deforestation.

The Prime Minister urged all to implement the target to cover the 50% of the country with forests to ensure fair climatic condition and enhance forest ecosystem as a national duty. Next, the Prime Minister planted Gantgaw tree at the designated place, followed by planting of saplings by Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, Deputy Pirme Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Council Secretary, Joint Secretary, council members, Union level officials, Union Ministers, officials and students.

A total of 3,000 saplings including 16 kinds of tree species were planted during the event. It is leant that from 2021 monsoon to 2024, the government distributed and planted over 90.55 million saplings across the country. After the ceremony, the Prime Minister and party visited the Ottarathiri Dam where they inspected the maintenance of the dam due to the crack of earthen-wall.

  Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung reported on the status of water way of the dam, geological survey to reconstruct the dam and conducting soil test. Upon the report, the Prime Minister instructed to ensure the scrutinizing process before the repair works and to pay attention for long-term durability.
