Along with the permission of National-level Steering Committee on Development of Electric Vehicles and Related Business, the newly imported EVs arrived in Myanmar for the first time and to widely use EVs in the country, the pilot project period is set from 1st January to 31st December 2023.
Those first arrivals are BYD electric cars manufactured by China and going to be run as passenger taxis and it has the value of around 100 million kyats. For home use EVs, it can be easily charged with home use meter and public charging stations are also being implemented for travel.
President, MAMDA, Dr. Soe Htun said "At present, it has zero taxes for EVs import. And if it runs, the tax is free for roads and bridges for two years. There will be 5 charging stations such as Yangon Railways, Thirimingalar market, Aungmingalar and Hlaing Thaya Highway bus terminals and Thakhin Mya Park and they are now being implemented. Plans are being made to implement more at the Yangon International Airport, in Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay, Yangon-Mandalay highway and at 38 gas stations in Yangon region as well as at 180 gas stations for the 2nd step."
The global automobile manufacturers in the world did well boosting capacity of electric vehicles, doing research to reduce battery production cost so that EV market is getting widespread around the world. One time charging receives about 400 kilos and can drive about 300 miles.
Sales Manager, BYD Perfect Co., Ltd., San Lin Htoo said "EVs can be charged at 3 levels. The original charger on the car is AC level 1 takes at least 10 hrs and above, AC level 2 needs to buy more accessories and could set at home but we need power meter so that if can charge fully with only about 5 hours. Station is level 3 and we call DC charging at least within 30-50 minutes. It can charge fully like rapid charging system. Basically EVs could use for 3 to 4 days with full charging but recharging depends on usage. "
Due to the use of battery electric power, EVs have no noise and gas emissions and reduce the damage of natural environment. At the same time, they can reduce the cost by 6 times for a mile drive comparing with fuel and gas use vehicles.
