MNCW Meeting Held: MSWRR UM delivered the opening remarks

The Myanmar National Committee for Women (MNCW) held its meeting at the Assembly Hall of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw on February 9.

The session was presided over by the Chairman of Myanmar National Committee for Women Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win. In his opening address, Union Minister stated that the committee’s pivotal role in spearheading policies, drafting and amending legislation, and establishing strategic frameworks dedicated to the protection and empowerment of women.

He highlighted the committee's function as a bridge for international and regional cooperation in the field of women’s affairs. The MNCW has reviewed and approved the Two-Year Progress Report (2023-2024 to 2024-2025 Fiscal Years). This report documents the implementation of the 12 priority areas defined under the National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women (NSPAW).

Following formal approval, the report will be distributed to the NSPAW Steering Committee and the 12 relevant work committees. It will also be made available to the public on the Ministry’s official website. The Union Minister instructed to enhance inter-ministerial collaboration and emphasized the need for systematic supervision across Regions, States, District, and Township-level women’s committees to ensure effective grassroots implementation.

Next, Deputy Minister and Vice-Chairman of MNCW, Dr. Than Soe, alongside other Deputy Ministers, Directors General, and senior officials from focal ministries represented on the NSPAW Steering Committee including detailed briefings on current projects and the outlining of future work plans under the NSPAW framework.

A comprehensive review of the biennial report (2023-2025) submitted by the Department of Social Welfare, covering the Union Territory (Nay Pyi Taw) and all Regions and States. Participants discussed the strengths, challenges, and recommendations identified during the reporting period. The Union Minister concluded the meeting by reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing the socio-economic status of women across the nation.
