Chinese New Year celebrations in Mexico City were cancelled for this year because of the corona virus pandemic. Tourists gathered at the small Chinese quarter of the capital in the hope of seeing dancing dragons parading through the neighbourhood to celebrate the Year of Tiger.

But they were left disappointed.  Last year's celebrations were also cancelled because of the pandemic, but there was an expectation that this year it would go ahead. Nonetheless, streets in the neighbourhood were still decorated for the New Year. Traditional red lanterns created a festive environment for locals and tourists bought the Chinese good-luck charms and amulets and savoring the best Chinese food in town.
