Mexico attempts world's largest human wave record

Thousands of participants gathered on Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City to attempt a Guinness World Record for the largest human wave. The event celebrated the 40th anniversary of the stadium ritual's global debut during the 1986 World Cup and served as an exuberant lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

While cultural authorities have reported on social media that the record was broken, official confirmation from Guinness World Records is pending as their adjudicators assess the evidence from the attempt. Historically, the largest official Mexican wave involved over 150 participants in Tennessee, USA in 2008.
