Memorial Art Exhibition: Artworks in Yangon by Artist U Marlar (Mandalay)

Marking the 1st death anniversary of the Artist U Marlar (Mandalay), a memorial exhibition was held at the SB furniture showroom in Yangon and at the Hazel hotel in Mandalay simultaneously. In Yangon, about 50 arts works depicting the Myanmar’s ancient boats are on display and the artworks depicting 7 buildings which existed since the founding of Mandalay and other artworks in Mandalay. This memorial is set on the 20th to the 21st of August.  

In-charge, Artist U Marlar Memorial Exhibition, Naing Win said "Here, the art works on display are watercolor and oil paintings. The theme of these art works is about boats. As the artist lived near the Ayeyawaddy River when he was young, he’s interested in boats. As there is Ayeyawaddy River, commodity flow was smooth before. Boats in the art works show part of the Myanmar tradition and can be inseparable from the history. He put various kinds of boats in his art works not to forget them. "

In the exhibition in Yangon, the largest size of the art works is 4 feet wide and 6 feet tall. It’s learnt that all these paintings belong to the artist U Marlar’s family.

Visitor, Maung Maung Thet said "I met with Sayargyi U Marlar at his exhibitions held at the National Museum and Strand Hotel. I was so close to him and I didn’t hope to see various kinds of his arts here. I’m a big enthusiast of art and here, I’m so surprised and happy to see people who appreciate arts more than I do. The paintings by Sayargyi are so amazing and really beautiful. "

Daughter, Shun Lae Wai said "My father used to work as an instructor at an art school in the past. After he resigned, he kept creating art works. He was born in Nan-Daw-Kyone Village and studied at an art school in Mandalay. We had no plan to hold this exhibition but my father’s friends and followers urged us to make this happen.  "

Visitor, Khaing Zar Win said "By viewing Sayargyi’s paintings, I feel as if he is here with me today. The unique features of the paintings are about Myanmar traditions and culture. Those who come to today exhibition can study the way the people lived in the past and will know the living standards of them."

It’s learnt that the Artist U Marlar (Mandalay) used to work at the Department of Archaeology and National Museum - every art work he created has historical evidences and stories behind.
