The Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing gave necessary instruction at the meeting on the Natural Disaster Management held at the office of SAC Chairman in the afternoon on September 17.

In his opening remark, SAC Chairman said that the meeting is held to coordinate the requirements regarding with the natural disaster management. In the days following the impact of Typhoon Yagi, which struck with its intensity, and due to the strength of the small cyclone that formed in the central and northwestern parts of the Bay of Bengal, there were severe rainfalls leading to damage in Shan State, Naypyidaw Council Area, and some other regions and states.

It has been reported that Typhoon Yagi was particularly intense when it crossed Hainan Island. Experience has shown that while it is common for Vietnam to experience normal rainfall within about two days after a Typhoon passes through, it was not anticipated that the current level of rainfall would occur.

On September 7, Typhoon Yagi began crossing Vietnam, and at that time, a low-pressure area also formed in the Bay of Bengal. Due to the intensity of these weather systems, heavy rainfall occurred in some townships in southern Shan State, Naypyidaw Council Area, and several regions and states. Although warnings were issued, there were no forecasts predicting the extent of the heavy rainfall that has occurred so far.

Continuous heavy rainfall led to the overflow of streams from the mountains, causing damage along the water flow paths.Natural disasters, although unavoidable, can have their impacts minimized and recovery efforts expedited with the best possible measures.

This current event could result in significant damage throughout central Myanmar over an extended period. There are many lessons to be learned and adjustments to be made from this experience. For example, when dealing with continuous heavy rains and flooding, it is crucial to learn from the damage caused to bridges and incorporate systematic considerations for water flow resistance in future bridge constructions.

Regarding recovery efforts, support should be provided to those who lost their lives, were injured, or lost their homes. Many homes were lost during the floods, and there is a need to carry out recovery operations to assist affected communities.

It is also essential to ensure that disaster relief camps are adequately supplied with food and necessities for the displaced people. The natural disaster caused by this storm represents a significant lesson for the country. Coordination among relevant ministries, regional and state governments, military branches (Army, navy, air), and regional military commands is necessary to effectively carry out rescue and recovery operations.

Next, the chairman of the Natural Disaster Management SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister clarified the impacts of the Typhoon Yagi and the plans of rehabilitation. Then, the Vice Chairman (1) National Disaster Management Committee Union Minister for Home Affairs, Committee Chairman (2) Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and attendees clarified the related sectors.

After clarifying the action plans, work progress, arrival of assistances from AHA Center and India and other matters by the Union ministers and Senior military officials from office of Commander In Chief, SAC Chairman gave supplemented instructions and speech of conclusion.
