Pickpocketing Offenses Solved: 99 offenders arrested in the Townships of Yangon

The Yangon Region Police Force has been intensively carrying out operations for the benefits of the people to ensure domestic security, community peace and tranquility, and the rule of law. As part of these efforts, security personnel have conducted intelligence gathering and undercover surveillance at YBS bus lines, bus stops, and public areas across townships in Yangon Region to reduce group pickpocketing incidents. As a result, offenders have been identified, arrested, and prosecuted.

During the period from April 20, 2026, to July 7, 2026, a total of 117 cases were solved, and 99 offenders including 94 males and 5 females were apprehended in the townships within Yangon Region such as Htantabin, Insein, Hlaingthaya (East), Hlaingthaya (West), Thingangyun, Botahtaung, Dawbon, Thaketa, Latha, Mingala Taungnyunt, Dagon Myothit (North), Dagon Myothit (East), Dagon Myothit (Seikkan), Pabedan, Lanmadaw, Kyimyindaing, Sanchaung, Mayangon, North Okkalapa, Kamayut, and Bahan. Seized evidences from the pickpocketing offenses included 140 mobile phones and cash amounting to 6.57 million kyats.

The measures are being carried out daily in collaboration with relevant administrative bodies at the district level to reduce crime and eliminate unlawful acts, conducting mobile patrols, neighborhood patrols, and stakeouts, checking guest registration lists, delivering crime awareness lectures, distributing awareness pamphlets and, in cooperation with traffic police and administrative bodies, conducting road safety and traffic rule awareness talks, as well as impounding vehicles violating traffic regulations, it’s reported.
