Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun attended a meeting regarding the electricity generation and distribution situation within Mandalay Region held at the City Hall of MCDC in Mandalay on February 3. The meeting was attended by officials from industrial zones and business owners within the region.

In his opening remarks, the Union Minister stated that to enable full operation of manufacturing industries, the 500 MW LNG power plant project has been successfully implemented. Consequently, starting from January 14, 2026, the plant has begun supplying 500 MW of power. For industrial and business enterprises, "24/7 electricity availability" will bring practical benefits such as continuous factory operation, increased productivity, more job opportunities, and reduced reliance on other high-cost energy sources. To maintain uninterrupted power supply and ensure balanced electricity production costs, an "Economic Rate" has been set for industrial and commercial businesses. Starting from February usage, a new electricity tariff rate of 900 kyats will be applied.

Therefore, for January usage units, agreement and signature between meter readers and consumers is required. Although the electricity tariff is increased, it aims to create a good production environment with a reliable energy guarantee for business owners, enabling them to successfully expand their operations. Following this, the Mandalay Region Chief Minister delivered remarks.

Officials from the Ministry of Electric Power then explained the situation and challenges in planning power generation from LNG, the status of repairs to main power lines destroyed by terrorist saboteurs, and the situation regarding power distribution from LNG-to-Power plants to industrial zones, small-scale industries, and businesses within Mandalay Region.

Subsequently, officials from industrial zones and business owners within the region expressed appreciation for the efforts to plan power generation from LNG. They also presented and discussed the advantages and disadvantages regarding the situation of collecting electricity charges from industrial and commercial businesses at the newly set rate and the increased tariff collection.

In response to the presentations, the Union Minister coordinated and addressed necessary requirements, and delivered concluding remarks.
