Meeting of central working body: 1st meeting of central working body of SEZs held

The first meeting for the fiscal year 2025–2026 of the Central Working Body for Myanmar Special Economic Zones (SEZs) was held at the meeting hall (2) of the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw.

The meeting was attended and addressed by Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Kan Zaw, who is also the Chairman of the Central Working Body, and the Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn, who serves as Vice Chairman.

First, the Chairman of the Central Working Body stated that export promotion efforts should be carried out in the Thilawa SEZ. Continued implementation of the Kyaukphyu Deep Sea Port Project in line with laws, regulations, and procedures. Support for investors in the Dawei SEZ in accordance with Myanmar SEZ laws and regulations.

Next, the Vice Chairman remarked that there is a need to increase electricity generation and usage via solar systems in the Thilawa SEZ. He expressed appreciation to the relevant ministries for their cooperation in implementing the Kyaukphyu and Dawei SEZ projects, and he encouraged further enhancement of collaboration.

Then, Deputy Director General U Myint Zaw Oo from the Department of Trade Promotion, under the Ministry of Commerce, presented a report on the implementation status of resolutions from the 4th meeting of the 2024–2025 fiscal year of the Central Working Body.

Subsequently, the Chairmen of the Management Committees from the Thilawa, Kyaukphyu, and Dawei SEZs read out and submitted their reports. Members of the Central Working Body also discussed and presented the operational status of each SEZ sector-wise. Later, the Chairman of the Central Working provided a closing address, integrating and coordinating necessary actions based on the reports and discussions.
