Los Angeles mayor says daughter, 9, has COVID-19

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said on Thursday that his nine-year-old daughter has tested positive for COVID-19, and he and his wife are quarantining at home.

Garcetti also ended speculation that he would accept a position in the Biden administration, saying "my city needs me now." Garcetti said his daughter Maya felt ill on Monday, developed a fever and tested positive for COVID-19.

He said he and his wife, Amy, have tested negative. Garcetti also said that he told the incoming Biden Administration earlier this week that he would not leave Los Angeles. There was speculation that Garcetti would be tapped as Secretary of Transportation in the Biden administration, a post that is going to Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of a much smaller city, South Bend, Indiana.
