Local rice consumption & export: Meeting on rice, boosting corn & sesame production

Union Minister for Commerce Dr. Pwint San gave a speech at the coordination meetings on domestic rice consumption and promoting export to foreign markets as well as boosting production of beans and pulses, corns and sesame and continuous export to foreign markets that were held virtually at the Ministry on separate occasions, Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that efforts must be made to Myanmar rice internationally at reasonable prices and to export more high-grade rice. It must work together to get a reasonable profit for all who involved in the supply chain of the rice sector from cultivation and production to export.

Then, those present at the meeting discussed finding ways and means for development of rice sector. Concerning boosting production of beans and pulses, corns and sesame and continuous export to foreign markets, the Union Minister said that necessary assistance are being provided for exporting agricultural produces from Myanmar in line with SPS protocols and regulations that are required in the respective countries, more production of beans, corns and sesame and improving the export quality and exporting to high market.

He called on private sector to seek new market and it needs to increase beans, sesame and sunflower cultivation and also reduce the import of edible oil by fulfilling the local market demand. The attendees discussed production of beans, corns and sesame, export to the world nations, domestic and foreign prices, changing cultivation depending on market demand and changing in trade patterns on which the Union Minister coordinated essentials.
