At least 16 killed in Xizang earthquake

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Baqen County in China's Xizang Autonomous Region on Thursday night, killing at least 16 people and injuring 32 others. Power and telecommunication lines were disrupted in parts of the region, and tremors were felt as far as Qamdo and Nyingchi.

Authorities activated a Level-II regional emergency response, dispatching hundreds of firefighters, police officers, search-and-rescue dogs, and emergency relief supplies.
