






The launching ceremony for the commencement of the seventh batch of projects under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund was held on the morning of March 17 at the meeting hall of the Union Minister's Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the ceremony, Union Minister U Min Naung delivered the opening remarks, stating that the government is supporting the simultaneous development of the agriculture and livestock sectors through the initial economic development fund. He emphasized that the ministry is continuously providing technical assistance and meeting the needs of farmers.
Additionally, the ministry is collaborating with partner countries and organizations on various development projects. Since 2017, 39 projects under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation initiative have been implemented, significantly contributing to poverty reduction and the socio-economic development of rural communities in Myanmar. Following this, Mr. Zhang Zhonghua, First Secretary of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Myanmar, delivered a congratulatory speech.
Subsequently, U Aung Kyaw Moe, Deputy Chairman of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Coordination Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Thandar Kyi, Director-General of the Planning Department, provided detailed explanations about the projects. The People's Republic of China established the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund to support poverty reduction and socio-economic development in rural areas of the region, aiming to narrow the development gap among regional countries.
The seventh batch of projects includes four initiatives: post-harvest and economic analysis projects for kitchen crops such as tomatoes, chili, onions, and cabbages; upgrading animal disease surveillance and diagnostic laboratories; field visits to villages in Naypyidaw to improve cattle breeding rates and promote cattle farming development; and constructing a livestock training school to enhance the skills of livestock breeders. These projects are set to be implemented accordingly, it’s learnt.
