Kyaiktiyo Festival Closure: Kyaiktiyo Pagoda Festival To Be Closed Starting March 21

Mon State Government announced the closure of Kyaiktiyo Pagoda Festival starting 21st March.

The announcement came after the meeting of Mon State Government on Wednesday as a measure to alleviate concerns for coronavirus in the country. It is also learnt that people visiting the pagoda significantly decreased yesterday with about 2,400 local pilgrims and 43 foreign tourists.

On the 16th, more than 6,000 local visitors and over 90 foreign tourists made a visit. The Mon State's landmark Kyaiktiyo Pagoda Festival is annually held from full moon day of Thadingyut to full moon day of Kasone. This year’s closure comes one and a half months earlier.
