North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited one of the country's major rocket launch sites, state media reported early Friday.
North Korea's previous satellite launch attempts have drawn international criticism because other countries see them as method of long-range missile development.
The report of Kim's visit to the Sohae launch site, in the northwest of the country, close to the border with China, comes a day after Kim was reported to have visited North Korea's National Aerospace Development Administration (NADA), tasked with satellite development.
At NADA, according to state media, Kim said that North Korea plans on "putting a lot of military reconnaissance satellites into sun-synchronous polar orbit" during its current five-year plan, which started in early 2021.
