North Korean leader Kim Jong Un shoveled earth at a ground-breaking ceremony for a farm intended to "improve the standard of people's diet", state-run media reported. The large greenhouse farm is located in Ryonpho near the city of Hamhung, on the east coast of the country, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) report.
North Koreans are accustomed to going through the winter without fresh vegetables, and instead rely on Kimchi and dried vegetables during the cold months. International aid agencies and local organisations have long tried to set up more heated greenhouses for growing vegetables and other crops all year round.
