Japan’s Studio Ghibli celebrated its 40th anniversary this month, marking four decades of influence in global animation. The studio was founded in 1985 by directors Hayao Miyazaki and the late Isao Takahata and quickly became synonymous with hand-drawn storytelling and imaginative worlds.

Ghibli’s films earned critical acclaim, including two Academy Awards, and attracted audiences across generations. Known for rich narratives and distinctive artistry, the studio shaped the global perception of Japanese animation. Over the years, titles like “Spirited Away”, “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Princess Mononoke” became cultural touchstones.
