Thailand celebrates 9th UNESCO World Heritage Site inscription

The Tourism Authority of Thailand joined hands with southern Thailand's Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and other public and private agencies in celebrating Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan's inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Running from Sunday to Monday, the celebrations featured grand cultural performances reflecting Thai identity. Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, a centuries-old major regional Buddhist center, was officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on Saturday, making Thailand's ninth World Heritage Site, and the first in the country's southern region.
