China and Canada convened their inaugural ministerial-level meeting of the China-Canada Joint Economic and Trade Commission in Beijing on Tuesday. The two countries agreed to a two-year extension of mutual tariff and market access exemptions through the end of 2028, covering Canadian goods as well as select Chinese steel and aluminum products.

In addition, both sides established a business leaders' roundtable via a new memorandum of understanding and pledged to boost cooperation in legacy sectors such as oil and gas alongside emerging fields like clean energy, smart agriculture, advanced manufacturing, and new materials.
