Japanese researcher Sagawa Masato has received a prestigious engineering prize from Britain's King Charles for developing the world's most powerful permanent magnet.
The king presented a trophy to five 2022 and 2023 winners of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering. Sagawa, who serves as a consultant for Japanese specialty steel maker Daido Steel, won the prize last year for developing the neodymium-iron-boron magnet.
It is said to be the world's most powerful permanent magnet. Sagawa was recognized for the breakthrough that led to the development of small and high-performance motors, and contributing to enabling cleaner, energy-saving technologies.
