Japan marks end of WWII battle for Okinawa

Japan marked the 77th anniversary of the Battle of Okinawa on Thursday, one of the bloodiest battles of World War II fought on the southern Japanese island.

At the ceremony, Governor of Okinawa Prefecture Denny Tamaki said they will continue to offer humanitarian support for Ukraine including accepting evacuees from the country.During this battle, around 200,000 were killed, nearly half of them Okinawan residents.Tamaki said seeing the deaths of innocent civilians in Ukraine aches his heart deeply and he will continue working hard for the total abolition of nuclear weapons and renunciation of wars.
