An Iraqi Turkmen has been appointed as a state minister in Iraq’s new government, marking a significant step for the Turkmen community, which has long lacked ministerial representation. Mehmet Seman Aga, who served as governor of Kirkuk, said the appointment would enable Iraqi Turkmen to bring their concerns directly to the government and contribute more effectively to Iraq’s development.
Aga said he would oversee key issues concerning Türkiye-Iraq relations, including the Development Road project, water, energy, security and trade, following discussions with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi. He also expressed confidence that a Turkmen politician would soon take over as Kirkuk governor under a power-sharing agreement among Arab, Kurdish and Turkmen communities.
