Costa Rica's President Fernandez tours CECOT prison during visit to El Salvador

Costa Rica President Laura Fernández toured El Salvador's maximum-security mega-prison to observe its security protocols, architecture, and confinement systems firsthand as part of her official state visit during October 16 to 18.

Upon arriving in El Salvador, President Fernández immediately traveled to Tecoluca to tour the high-security Terrorism Confinement Center. Costa Rica is actively studying El Salvador’s hard-line security strategies and correctional infrastructure to implement similar high-containment detention facilities aimed at curbing organized drug trafficking and violent crime within Costa Rica.
