A supertanker caught fire after it struck a sea mine while traversing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement issued by the Navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Saturday.

Carrying over 2 million barrels of crude oil, the supertanker intended to pass the Strait of Hormuz via an “unauthorized” route with closed navigation and radar system under support from the U.S. military, said the statement. In the statement, the IRGC Navy said it once again stresses that the Strait of Hormuz has already closed.
