






Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing together with Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin, Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen HtinLattOo and officials inspected implementation of Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project in Sittway, Rakhine State on Monday.
First, Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San reported emergence of the project, the tasks including in the project, the salient points of Kaladan jetty and progress of construction works, completed construction of office and related buildings, arrival of machinery and river going transport vehicles, completed construction of Paletwa inland water jetty, dredging waterway, plan to construct a highway from Paletwa to Myanmar-India border, designating asĀ an international customs port, plan to designate as a domestic port and the benefits upon completion of the project.
In response to the reports, the Prime Minister said that the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project is the one that can bring a lot of benefits to Rakhine State and the flow of goods from local and abroad will be made faster.
Myanmar and India have a good relationship and are good neighbors. This project will enhance connecting and trading of the two countries and it is a strategically important project for both countries.
Only when the ceasefire, peace and stability is ensured in Rakhine state, will the regional development in the northern Rakhine State including Paletwa region be implemented. Besides, it will support more development along Kaladan River.
The Prime Minister stressed the needs on implementation of the project as soon as possible in the respective sectors and discussed with attendees on the project facts.
Later, the Prime Minister and party viewed around Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project site where the Indian Consul General Mr. BibekanandaBhattamishra and officials reported on implementing the tasks.
In response to the reports, the Prime Minister discussed the requirements. Upon completion of the project, Myanmar and India have more trade opportunities and the international ports will emerge. Moreover, the direct trading can be made with India but also with other countries.
Transportation in Rakhine State and Chin State has improved and it will greatly contribute to the regional development. It will create more employment opportunities to locals and bring benefits such as maritime tourism and other opportunities.
