








The Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, Dr. Aung Gyi, visited Myanmar MSC Company Limited in Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region, on March 17. He inspected the seaweed propagation process using the tissue culture method and the stages of seaweed propagation in the laboratory. Officials explained the production and cultivation of Korean seaweed, including Red Cottonii, Green Cottonii, Spinosum, and Gracilaria, through tissue culture, laboratory propagation, and seaweed cultivation in the open sea. Based on the clarifications, the Deputy Minister advised officials to strive not only to export raw seaweed overseas but also to work toward producing value-added finished food products.
Following this, the Deputy Minister attended a ceremony at the Perennial Crops Research and Technology Development Farm in Shwedu Village, Myeik Township, where coffee and cocoa seedlings, along with natural fertilizers, were distributed to farmers involved in perennial crop cultivation. He met with the farmers, encouraging them to work toward increasing individual farmer incomes while promoting the development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) based on local raw materials. The Regional Director of the Agriculture Department then explained the purpose of distributing coffee and cocoa seedlings and natural fertilizers. The Deputy Minister handed over these items to the farmers, and a farmer representative expressed gratitude.
Subsequently, officials from the Perennial Crops Research and Technology Development Department briefed the Deputy Minister on their research into oil palm and rubber varieties, as well as their efforts to disseminate technology. The Deputy Minister instructed them to expand their technical support initiatives.
In the afternoon, the Deputy Minister visited modern saltwater shrimp farming operations on Ma Aing Island in Kyunsu Township, Myeik District, operated by Awbar San Company and Kyaw Kaung Htet Company. He inspected their activities and discussed operational needs and recommendations with the responsible officials.
In the evening, the Deputy Minister met with officials of agriculture sector from the region, district, and township levels at the meeting hall of the Myeik District Land Records and Statistics Department. Discussions focused on expanding the cultivation of marketable new fruit crops, producing and distributing high-quality seedlings, ensuring regional food security, studying natural fish breeding using modern techniques, and advancing the fisheries sector’s development.
