India has begun releasing 35 captive-reared critically endangered vultures in Assam, marking a major milestone in national and global conservation efforts.

The birds, raised at the Rani Vulture Conservation Centre in Guwahati, are being released into the 6th Addition of Kaziranga National Park under the Biswanath Wildlife Division. The group includes 30 White-rumped Vultures and 5 Slender-billed Vultures species. The move aims to restore Assam’s vulture populations and strengthen India’s wider commitment to biodiversity protection.
