Illegal trade: Timbers, chemicals, unregistered vehicles seized

The effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.

A combined inspection team led by the Forest Department seized illegal timbers near the 90/2 milepost on the Pyay-Taungup Road in Taungup Township. Similarly, illegal teak poles were captured in Ingapu Township.

In addition, Bago Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force confiscated consumer goods and foodstuffs without official documents from two trucks heading from Myawady to Yangon on 21 June.

Also illegal teak and other timbers were seized in Bago, Toungoo and Thayawady districts on 23 and 24 June. On 22 June, the on-duty team confiscated chemicals which were not paid fines by the company at the container terminal of Asia World Port.

In addition, authorities captured nine vehicles that were four years over the ID period and were left by owners at the container terminal of the Myanmar International Port (Thilawa).

At the container terminal of the Myanmar Integrated Port Limited (MIPL), officials confiscated eight vehicles that were five years over the ID period and were left by owners.

On 24 June, a team led by the Myanmar Police Force captured a Zongshen 125 CZI motorbike in Wetlet Township.

Therefore, 41 arrests estimated at 423.25 million Kyats were made on five consecutive days from 20 to 24 June, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.
