Illegal Trade Eradication: 3 special units formed to eradicate illegal trade

At present, trading at the Yangon international ports has increased this year although it’s decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Customs Department under the Ministry of Planning and Finance has been inspecting the imported goods in cooperation with related departments to eliminate illegal trade and whether the goods are the taxed ones.

Director, Nay Lin Aung, Customs Department said "In this fiscal year, at the ports, there’re 473 cases of illegal trade worth over 15 billion kyats and the illegal goods were confiscated. 3 illegal eradication special units were formed under the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee and the units have been making inspections since the 14th of October 2022 at the Yangon International Airport, Yangon International ports and Thilawa Port. These units found 23 cases of illegal trading worth over 416 million Kyats."

There are 8 international container ports in Yangon and the Customs Department and related departments have been making inspections whether there is illegal trading.
