Illegal sale of medicines: Items with an estimated value of about K 101 MIL seized

The illegal sales of cosmetics, medicines, medical equipment and supplements online can be harmful to the people and measures are being undertaken to take action effectively on it, according to an official of Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.

The official said that the Committee is implementing to take action effectively to the illegal trade measures in accord with the law.  He added that it is also found that the vaccines are also being imported through illegal way and injected.

Moreover, the prohibited drugs that are not approved by FDA are being advertised on social medial like facebook and are being sold illegally. FDA has formed a team to monitor daily the illegal advertising drugs, medicines, medical equipment, food and cosmetics on social media.

The team is exposing the links of advertisements and sales of these products that are not allowed to sell and then the facts are sent to CID.

Medicines and medical equipment that are sold illegally online were seized 10 times in Mandalay region and 1 time in Yangon region in January and the estimated value of the seized items is about 101 million kyats according to official.
