Hundreds of same-sex couples got married in a mass wedding ceremony in Mexico City, kicking off LGBT Pride celebrations. While most states across Mexico now recognize same-sex marriages, holding a wedding can be difficult.

To avoid bureaucracy and discrimination, couples travelled to the capital to enjoy themselves on their special day. Even if they can't get married in their home state, they hope to travel back with an official document in hand, and appeal to a federal court to be recognized as partners.

In 2010 Mexico City became the first place in Mexico to create marriage equality laws. Since then, 26 other states have recognized marriage equality in some way, but rights are still uneven across the country.
