Humanitarian Assistance : Repatriation of 26 fishermen detained in Port Blair

A total of 26 Myanmar fishermen, who were detained in Port Blair in India, due to the illegal entry into the Indian territorial waters, arrived back in Yangon on 23 July.

Officials from the Myanmar Embassy in New Deli and the Myanmar Consulate General in Kolkata, in close coordination with the relevant authorities of India, issued travel documents, coordinated flight schedules, and facilitated other necessary logistical support to ensure the safe and orderly repatriation of the returnees.

Upon their arrival at the Yangon International Airport, the returnees were received by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Immigration and Population, and respective personnel and provided with necessary assistance.

The Government of Myanmar places great emphasis on safeguarding the interests of its nationals abroad, and is constantly providing necessary consular assistance through the relevant Myanmar embassies and consulates to assist Myanmar Nationals who are facing difficulties and hardships in foreign countries for various reasons and to help them return to Myanmar.
