


The Task Force on Humanitarian Aid Management held their second coordination meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.
In his address, Chairman of the Task Force and Union Minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing said that ASEAN is providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar as per the fourth point of the five aspirations agreed by ASEAN leaders.
As a first step, medical supplies worth about 1.1 million USD were provided to Myanmar to fight the COVID-19 epidemic. The supplies are being distributed to divisions and states. Arrangements are being made to continue donation to regions and states, including Nay Pyi Taw.
Officials from the Ministry of Health, representatives from the Myanmar Red Cross Society and Yangon-based ASEAN embassies are also assisting in the donation programmes. In addition, the first batch of supplies will continue to arrive until the end of this year, the Union Minister added.
He urged the members to support each other in their respective responsibilities. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also briefed all on the situation of ASEAN humanitarian assistance to Myanmar. Officials from the Ministry of Health discussed plans for the second round of donation, receipt of goods, conditions of distribution and future plans.
Officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement discussed the arrangements for the second phase of donations. Participants of the meeting also reviewed the implementation of the decisions of the first coordination meeting and the status of implementation.
