Hepatitis Prevention and Control: MOH UM attended and delivered opening speech

The opening ceremony of the coordination meeting on Hepatitis Prevention and Control was held at the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on June 4.

The event was attended by Union Minister Professor Dr. Thet Khine Win, who delivered the opening speech. During the speech, the Minister emphasized that Hepatitis C can be completely cured with medication, while Hepatitis B can be prevented through systematic vaccination.

He stated that, like other member countries of the World Health Organization (WHO), Myanmar aims to eliminate Hepatitis B and C as public health concerns by 2030. Since 2014, the country has been implementing hepatitis prevention and eradication programs in alignment with WHO treatment guidelines etc.

The second part of the coordination meeting continued at the Mingalar Thiri Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. Participants discussed the current implementation status and challenges of hepatitis prevention and control efforts.

They also reviewed Myanmar’s strategies for the elimination of HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis B (Triple Elimination) along with the national strategic plan for hepatitis control. Over the two-day period, from June 4 to 5, discussions will be held to assess progress and outline future initiatives.
