Heavy Rainfall Warning: DMH issues alert for heavy rainfall till May 20

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology issued a heavy rainfall warning till the 20th of May. The unstable air conditions continue to develop over the Andaman Sea and the South Bay of Bengal.

The continued advancement of the southwest monsoon and the development of convective clouds are expected to bring fairly widespread to widespread rain and thundershowers across much of the country. Regions likely to be affected include Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Magway, Sagaing, Ayeyawady, and Tanintharyi, as well as the Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine, and Shan States.

In particular, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Ayeyawady Regions, along with Chin and Rakhine through May 20th.

Authorities are urging the public to stay alert for natural hazards such as heavy rainfall with strong wind, thunderstorms and lightning strike, possible hails, flash flood and landslide especially in the hilly regions and areas near small rivers. People using inland water transport and domestic air travel are advised to exercise caution during this period.
