Heavy rain kill twelve in Brazil

The heavy rain in Guajura, Sao Paulo state in the early hours of Tuesday, left at least 12 people dead and 46 missing, according to the fire department. Hundreds of firefighters are working to help the victims and continue looking for the missing, mostly people who were presumably buried by their homes or landslides.

Guaruja, Santos and Sao Vicente are the cities most affected by intense rain. In addition to Sao Paulo, storms have also hit the state of Rio de Janeiro in recent days, leaving a trail of destruction and causing at least five deaths. According to the Rio Operations Center, between Sunday and Monday it rained more than half of the average forecast for the month of March across the city.
