The health minister of Libya's UN-backed Government of National Accord on Tuesday announced the war-torn country's first coronavirus case. The Minister assured the public that the Ministry of Health was taking all measures to care for the patient and urged for people to follow the preventive measures issued by the ministry and the National Center for Disease Control.

The National Centre for Disease Control did not provide any further details of the patient or his current state. Most patients who contract the new coronavirus develop only mild symptoms and recover after about two weeks, but the virus is highly contagious and can be spread by those with no visible symptoms. For older adults and people with underlying health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.
