Global COVID-19 death toll tops 60,000, with 1.1 mln cases

A total of 60,000 people had died of COVID-19 globally as the number of infections surged to 1.1 million cases on Sunday, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) dashboard. The pandemic has spread to 208 countries and areas. The number of cases outside China surged to over 1 million as WHO data showed.

According to WHO, the United States had reported 273,000 cases with 7,000 deaths as of Sunday morning. Spain has reported 124,000 infections and 11,744 deaths, overtaking Italy in confirmed cases and becoming the second worst virus-hit nation in the world.
