Tens of thousands of people attended a rally in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, on Monday evening in support of the country's EU membership aspirations.

The rally was organized by civil movements and non-governmental organizations, and comes after the European Commission held off backing candidate status for Georgia, saying it needed to "come together politically to design a clear path towards structural reform".

Similar rallies were held in various towns and cities across the country. According to organizers, the aim of the rally was to show the EU that Georgia's place is within the European family.
