in the British city of Manchester, a statue of Indian lawyer and political ethicist Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled on Monday, marking the 150th anniversary of Gandhi's birth. The statue was erected outside Manchester Cathedral, and was presented in front of political and religious leaders. Designed by artist Ram V Sutar, the statue is intended to celebrate Manchester's multi-cultural society. The statue also commemorated Gandhi's visit to Manchester on his way to see mill workers in Lancashire in 1931.
