French teen in Singapore straw-licking case to enter plea

A French teen facing criminal charges in Singapore for a straw-licking stunt will enter a plea next month in a case that could land him in jail on conviction, a court heard Friday.

Didier Gaspard Owen Maximilien allegedly filmed himself removing, licking, and returning a straw to an orange juice vending machine at the Goldhill Centre on March 12. The video subsequently went viral on Instagram. Maximilien was granted special court permission to leave the country for a graduation trip to Manila from May 2 to May 25. He has returned to Singapore for his subsequent court dates.
