The pearl mullet, an endemic species unique to Lake Van, continues its remarkable migration journey during the spawning season.

Every year, millions of fish swim against strong currents and migrate from the lake to freshwater streams in order to reproduce. The fish create spectacular scenes as they leap above the water to overcome natural obstacles, particularly in Deliçay Stream near the district of Ercis, Turkiye.

Their impressive jumps have earned them the nickname “flying fish” among visitors and locals. For a period, the fish could not be easily observed due to rising water levels caused by heavy rainfall and melting snow. However, as the flow rate in Deliçay has decreased, the fish have once again become visible, delighting nature enthusiasts and photographers.
